7th edition of La marche du Grand défoulement: fostering greater solidary, one stride at a time

May 6, 2024

We’re pleased to announce the upcoming 7th edition of La marche du Grand défoulement, an event presented by Desjardins, in collaboration with Larivière et Massicotte, Pharmaciennes – Pharmacie d’expertise. La marche du Grand Défoulement is more than a walk, it’s a resounding expression of solidarity and hope for people from every corner of the province who are impacted by cancer.

This year, Sophie Durocher, provincial ambassador of the 7th edition of La marche du Grand Défoulement, is striving to muster yet greater support for what she considers a very important event:

SD La marche du Grand défoulement“Cancer hits close to home. Not only did my mother die of breast cancer just last month, but my father is currently facing prostate cancer. And I won’t even speak of my friends who have cancer at this very moment or have had cancer, but suffice it to say that I don’t have enough fingers, both hands combined, to count them all. The Quebec Cancer Foundation is like a beacon in a storm, a symbol of kindness and empathy. I am truly honoured to have the opportunity of acting as the provincial ambassador for the 2024 edition of La marche du Grand défoulement, a unifying event of great importance to the well-being of Quebecers facing cancer.”

From September 7 to 21, thousands of participants will walk together in Montreal, Trois-Rivières, Quebec City, Gatineau and Granby to support Quebecers with cancer and their loved ones. Everyone is invited to participate and can sign up for this inspiring event either individually or as part of a group by going to the page lamarchegd.ca (in French only). Each step and every dollar gathered will help make a true difference in the lives of people affected by the disease.

“Over $2 million has been raised since La marche du Grand défoulement’s creation. This amount is significant and critical to helping the 67,500 Quebecers who receive a cancer diagnosis each year get through the ordeal. We’ve set a fundraising goal of $450,000 for this 7th edition of La marche du Grand Défoulement. This will help finance the programs and services provided by the Quebec Cancer Foundation. Thanks to the generosity and commitment of walkers and donors alike, we will be able to continue offering true support, in a humane way and on a daily basis, to people with cancer throughout the province,” stated Marco Décelles, General Manager of the Quebec Cancer Foundation.
