It is within a warm, soothing atmosphere of sharing and good humor that you can best discover your hidden potential, and find the tools you need to cope with cancer. Yoga is a discipline of body and spirit that employs a wide variety of exercises and techniques, including physical posture, breathing and meditation practices, and deep relaxation.

Who is it for?

Regardless of your age, flexibility and physical condition, yoga is for you. So just relax and recharge your batteries and forget your worries. The Quebec Cancer Foundation offers free yoga classes for up to one a year after the end of your treatment.

The benefits

  • Yoga will awaken a renewed sense of harmony within you that will gradually allow you to find yourself.
  • Performing simple postures appropriate to your physical condition will help you relax and strengthen your body, and boost your immune system.
  • Learning visualization and specific breathing and energy techniques will help you revitalize your body.
  • Practicing complete breathing, meditation and guided relaxation promotes relaxation, letting go and the ability to live in the moment.

“Since my cancer diagnosis, the practice of yoga has proven very effective. I've learned to breathe better, relax and, through the postures, to acquire more agility. This highlight in my week helps me to refocus. I highly recommend it!"

“This yoga class offers me a return to calm, a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of life. This is my soothing moment. The kindness, the listening and the support I receive from my teachers, from the center and from the other participants have become essential to my journey. Thank you so, so much.”

“My experience with yoga during my chemotherapy treatments has been very rewarding. I’ve learned that practicing yoga helps me to find myself, to let go and to appreciate living in the moment.”

OB YOGA, in collaboration with the Quebec Cancer Foundation, is offering free yoga classes to anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer and is receiving chemotherapy, radiotherapy or hormone therapy. The classes are adapted to individual physical abilities.

OB YOGA has designed a class specifically for people receiving treatment for cancer, gently followed by a guided meditation period to relieve the stress of the ordeal. Isabelle O’Brien, who will lead these classes, is certified in oncology yoga by the University of Calgary.

To qualify, please send all documentation relating to your doctor’s diagnosis or your treatment journal (a photo taken with your phone is fine). After checking your records, and with your doctor’s approval, you will receive confirmation of your acceptance in the free OB YOGA program.

For more complete information and to send us your diagnosis, please contact Isabelle O’Brien at [email protected].
