Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the soil and can accumulate in some homes by entering through the foundation. Regular exposure increases the risk of lung cancer.
To enable more Quebecers to test the radon levels in their homes, the Quebec Cancer Foundation offers free loans of certified electronic radon detectors at all of its regional centres. Devices are available by reservation only, between October 1 and March 31. A refundable deposit is required.
Click on the Regional Center where you would like to pick up a device to check availability and reserve the loan period that suits you. First come, first served.

Check with your local public library to see if it offers radon detector loans (or ask them to consider offering the service).
Radon detector loans are available at libraries in, among other municipalities: Belœil, Candiac, Chelsea, Les Coteaux, L’Assomption, Longueuil, Morin-Heights, Sainte-Adèle, Saint-Bruno, Saint-Clet, Saint-Henri, Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Saint-Rémi, and Vaudreuil-Dorion.
For approximately $50, you can purchase a passive radon test kit from the Association pulmonaire du Québec or CAA-Quebec, either in-store or online.
Some municipalities reimburse part of the cost of these test kits. Check with your municipality.
The program’s workshops of Look Good Feel Better help women with cancer overcome the effects of treatments on their appearance. Using cosmetics and hair alternatives, women can again take charge of their looks, adopt a more positive attitude while facing cancer and feel better about themselves.
Under the direction of a team of volunteers specialized in skin care, participants learn special make-up techniques and hear practical advice on skin and nail care, on the hygienic use of cosmetics and hair alternatives.
Coffee get-togethers provide people with cancer and their loved ones the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Together, they can talk openly about their experience and concerns, while finding support and reassurance.
Tuesday or Wednesday, 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Nothing is more natural and accessible than walking to stay in shape, socialize or reduce side effects caused by cancer treatments.
As part of our kinesiology workshops, many walking clubs for all levels are organized, free of charge, for people with cancer. The activity, offered free of charge, includes a warm-up, exercises adapted to the group and stretching.
Women who lose their hair following treatment can borrow a wig, choosing from over 300 models and colours.
Skilled volunteers who pay attention to your needs welcome you warmly and provide wise advice to help you find the best style of hairpiece for you.
