This is great news for the entire region. Maison Moreau, the Quebec Cancer Foundation’s new Lodge in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, will welcome its first residents as of October 27, 2025. Located in a stone’s throw from the Centre régional de radio-oncologie Rouyn-Noranda, the warm and welcoming dwelling will offer comfort and shelter to people living with cancer and their loved ones who must travel hundreds of kilometers to undergo therapy on a recurring basis.
A major regional project conceived to meet actual needs
Maison Moreau is the result of a unique collaboration model, namely a trustworthy partnership between the Fondation Santé Rouyn-Noranda (FSRN), the Quebec Cancer Foundation, and the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue (CISSS-AT). The three partners joined forces to achieve a shared objective: reducing the obstacles faced by people with cancer, improving the quality of life of patients and their loved ones, and facilitating access to oncology care and services throughout the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region.
“Thanks to this partnership, an essential step has been taken: the addition of an accommodation service associated with the regional radiation oncology service, unique in the province due to its being located far from major urban centres, will allow people living with cancer and their loved ones to benefit from a welcoming and safe environment, close to their home. The CISSS de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue is pleased to work with dedicated partners to improve access to care and services adapted to the needs of the region’s population,” stated Caroline Roy, Chief Executive Officer of the CISSS de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
This new facility, long-awaited, will be accompanied by fewer worries, a drop in costs… and more respite. Maison Moreau will be a tranquil, affordable, and compassionate environment, conveniently located near primary care providers.
“We are grateful for this opportunity to work alongside the Quebec Cancer Foundation on this initiative designed to transform the care provided in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. The facility, much more than a comfortable and welcoming lodging service, will allow people from the region to focus on their therapy, rather than dealing with the daily burden that cancer brings. To provide yet more relief, complementary therapies will be offered by the Fondation Santé, the Maison de l’envol, and the organization Au sein des femmes,” specified Stéphanie Thuot, General Manager of the Fondation Santé Rouyn-Noranda.
Exemplary mobilization from an entire community
This large-scale project was fully financed thanks to a major $10 million campaign organized by the Fondation Santé Rouyn-Noranda. Construction will be completed by the end of October, on time, on budget, and according to the highest quality standards. This achievement attests to the determination, strength, and solidarity of an entire region that rallied to better care for its people.
Maison Moreau’s activities and services will be ensured by the Quebec Cancer Foundation, renowned throughout the province for its human and compassionate expertise in oncology. The objective? Lighten the load that cancer constitutes, and in doing so, enable thousands of people in the region to focus on what is vital: healing and life’s precious moments. With Maison Moreau, the Quebec Cancer Foundation now has 7 Lodges offering a total of 300 beds — the most extensive accommodation network in oncology in Quebec.
A functional and human setting, designed with well-being in mind
Located near the Centre régional de radio-oncologie Rouyn-Noranda, at 10, rue Terminus Ouest, Maison Moreau has 10 rooms (20 beds) on the first floor of a fully renovated building, modern and functional, designed for patients undergoing radiation therapy and their loved ones. The Lodge also offers a common kitchen, congenial common areas, and rooms for complementary therapies, among them art therapy, kinesiology, and massage therapy, all services offered by the Quebec Cancer Foundation and the Fondation Santé Rouyn-Noranda. The service offer, moreover, will be enhanced over time in conjunction with local health sector partners, and with the goal of supplementing its physical well-being programs and psychological support services.
“This new Lodge is more than a local endeavour: it is a project that sends a strong message. In Quebec’s regions, access to care and services requires concrete solutions rooted in local realities. This project also demonstrates that health equity and service access are possible, and this is if people believe and invest in strengthening our health ecosystem,” stated Marco Décelles, General Manager, Quebec Cancer Foundation.
