This week, the Daily Living Assistance Program (PAVQ) reached an extremely significant milestone:
$1,000,000 distributed in direct financial aid to Quebecers living with cancer since 2022!
This is concrete support delivered across Quebec. The PAVQ is a program of last-resort financial aid for people living with cancer whose income falls below the low-income threshold and who are not eligible for any other financial assistance program. The annual amount awarded through the program can reach $1,000 per person, for a maximum of two years of financial support.
Since the program launched in 2022, hundreds of people have received help to buy groceries, pay their rent, cover essential expenses, and find a moment of respite in the middle of the storm that illness represents.
This million dollars represents far more than a milestone: it reflects a growing need and the importance of offering solutions that allow patients to focus on their health rather than on their financial burden.
Breakdown of requests by category of need
Unsurprisingly, food assistance accounts for the vast majority of requests received through the PAVQ, a direct reflection of the financial realities faced by many people living with cancer.
Beyond groceries, the program also helps address other urgent needs, particularly those related to housing, medication, transportation, and essential services.
