Today marks the launch of the 5th edition of La marche du Grand défoulement, an activity held on behalf of the Quebec Cancer Foundation. Everyone – either individually or as part of a team – is invited to take part in this festive and heartwarming movement by walking and raising funds to help ever more people who are facing cancer as well as their loved ones, and this from every corner of Quebec.
This year, Guylaine Tanguay, volunteer spokesperson for the Foundation, has once again stepped up to emphasize the importance of this event:
“La marche du Grand défoulement is a walk for hope, a walk in support of life. Please participate, individually, as a family, or with friends and colleagues. We need you.”
From September 10th to 24th, participants will walk in solidarity in various parks in Montreal, Trois-Rivières, Quebec City, Gatineau and Granby, as well as in Rimouski (in partnership with the Association du cancer de l’Est du Québec), to enjoy moments of pleasure and celebrate the courage of all of those whose lives have been devastated by cancer.
60,000 people are diagnosed with cancer each year. Cognizant that this number is growing year after year, the Foundation is determined to continue supporting those who must face cancer, one of whom is Peggy Bachman. “I’m walking to help people understand that, despite cancer, we can still have wonderful moments. And that there’s support out there, a wide variety of services of excellent quality that people can access to, for free.” she indicates. Beneficiary of the Foundation’s services and also Assistant general manager – Quality of life, City of Montreal, Peggy Bachman will be walking as an ambassador next September.
Over one million dollars has been raised since La marche was first introduced. These funds are both essential and important, as they allow thousands of Quebecers to benefit from a wide range services from the Foundation, such as support through the Info-cancer Hotline, physical wellness programs and psychological support or accommodations at one of the Foundation’s six centres across the province.
“To mark the 5th anniversary of La marche, we hope to raise $400,000 in order to ensure the sustainability and to improve the Foundation’s services to support yet more Quebecers impacted by cancer,” stated Marco Décelles, General Manager of the Quebec Cancer Foundation.
