Base Oncology — Launch of a Platform to Better Understand Cancer

March 17, 2026

In a context where health information is abundant yet often fragmented or difficult to understand, the Quebec Cancer Foundation today announces the official launch of Base Oncology, a new digital platform offering a series of reliable, accessible, and clearly explained educational video capsules about cancer, presented in a 2D animated format.

Clear Guidance Amid the Complexity of the Oncology Journey

Developed in collaboration with healthcare experts at Blue Aurora Solutions, Base Oncology is designed to support people affected by cancer, their loved ones, as well as professionals across the healthcare ecosystem. The platform provides rigorous and compassionate content covering essential concepts related to the disease, treatments, side effects, and the human and social challenges that shape the cancer journey.

Addressing Information Overload and Advancing Health Literacy

In an era of information overload, Base Oncology positions itself as a credible and reassuring resource, designed to answer frequently asked questions and guide individuals through key moments in their oncology journey.

“Base Oncology was born from a clear need: to provide accurate, understandable, and reassuring information at a time when individuals are often overwhelmed by contradictory or overly technical content, during pivotal periods of their lives,” said Dr. Jean-Sébastien Aucoin, President of Blue Aurora Solutions.

By prioritizing clarity, accessibility, and plain language, this digital tool helps strengthen health literacy and fosters more informed dialogue between people affected by cancer and healthcare stakeholders.

“This initiative is fully aligned with the Foundation’s mission to inform and support individuals affected by cancer and their loved ones at every stage of their journey. It also reflects our commitment to working in complementarity with the healthcare network and community organizations to better equip all Quebecers to make informed decisions,” stated Marco Décelles, General Manager of the Quebec Cancer Foundation.

Organized by cancer type — including breast, lung, and bladder cancers, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, multiple myeloma, and more — Base Oncology also features explanatory modules on treatments, goals of care, and support strategies. The platform can be accessed independently by the public, while also serving as a complementary tool for healthcare professionals supporting patients.
