With the new year already underway, we know that we must roll up our sleeves and, with the help of supporters like you, seek yet more ways to improve the well-being of people with cancer and their loved ones.
This disease, which continues to spread and which we have yet to get used to (and quite rightly so), is still the leading cause of death in the province.
Every 8 minutes, someone is diagnosed with cancer.
These past few years, the Quebec Cancer Foundation has introduced countless new programs and services designed to help those people who, in addition to undergoing exhausting treatments, must also contend with a daily routine that has been turned upside down. Not only are they ill, but they are often in shock, destabilized, on leave from their job, and overwhelmed by financial and family obligations.
As a partner to the healthcare system and front-line player, we are pursuing our efforts to help people from all corners of Quebec who fall through the cracks in the social net. Some of the province’s health institutions are already benefiting from our inclusive approach and facilitating role. With our new 2024-2026 strategic plan, we will aim to further facilitate access to front-line oncology services.
We will also be introducing a support program for the initiatives of Quebec’s oncology centers. Thanks to the support of loyal partners and donors such as you, we will be investing $1 M over 4 years to fund projects favouring improved physical and psychological well-being before, during, and after cancer treatments. This will ensure that the people who turn to these centers can receive still more concrete help in their region.

People who return to their home after having received cancer treatments in a large urban center may still experience pain and discomfort, not to mention have questions or specific needs. Some people who live in more remote regions will not be able to have their needs met locally, for complementary services are generally limited to major centers. This disparity led to the creation of two well-being oncology centers (centres de mieux-être en cancérologie), one in the Haut-Richelieu region and one in Saint-Hyacinthe. Both of these projects were developed by and for the community and supported by the Foundation. We hope that many more such centers will be created soon.
The Foundation also strives to support orphan causes such as rare cancers and to defend individual rights to prevention, screening, and access to novel treatments that could improve the quality of life of those concerned.

Having reached record stays (over 35,000 nights) in our accommodation centers in 2023, we are beginning to renovate some of the first facilities we made available to people affected by cancer. Last year, we gave a new lease on life to the Outaouais Lodge by renovating it from top to bottom and we will be doing the same to the Estrie Lodge in 2024.
You might find that we dream “big”. It’s true, but such big dreams (especially with regard to taking care of those who face cancer throughout the province) would never be realized if it were not for the extraordinary support and faith of each and every one of our donors.
Whenever someone supports the Quebec Cancer Foundation, a spark of hope and warmth is felt by those who have received a cancer diagnosis. A group that grows by one person every 8 minutes.
