On the occasion of World Lung Cancer Day, the Quebec Cancer Foundation is launching a new free service to help the public take action against radon: the loan of electronic radon detectors at its seven regional centers.
In addition to improving access to radon testing, the Foundation aims to raise greater awareness of this harmful radioactive gas, which needlessly claims the lives of 1,000 Quebecers each year. Naturally found in the soil, radon seeps into homes through foundations and can accumulate unnoticed. When present at high levels indoors, it increases the risk of lung cancer.
Test for radon to protect your health and that of your loved ones
Regular exposure to radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, and it significantly multiplies the risk of lung cancer for smokers. Everyone benefits from avoiding high levels of radon exposure.
“Testing the radon concentration in your home is simple and can help prevent lung cancer. The Quebec Cancer Foundation is pleased to support this essential first step in addressing radon by making electronic radon detectors available free of charge at all of its regional centres,” said Marco Décelles, General Manager of the Quebec Cancer Foundation.
Radon detectors are available for loan for a period of one month. They are offered exclusively from October 1 to March 31, as radon testing is more reliable during colder seasons. First come, first served!
